Our resident skin crusader Abbie talked to Veggie magazine about key ingredients for effective skincare products. Here's an extract
“Education and consumer empowerment have undoubtedly contributed to the rise in vegan beauty. While some are buying such products to solve issues like skin
sensitivity, others are concerned about the long-term effects of using synthetic ingredients that can lead to concerns beyond irritation,” explains Abbie Oguntade, founder of vegan skincare brand Freya + Bailey (freyaandbailey.com).
But what do we need to look for in products? Abbie thinks it’s all about efficiency, and asking the right questions: “How active are the ingredients? Will it still deliver the desired results? Yes, it’s vegan, but is it going to be clinically effective? Keep your eye out for beauty buzzwords on the packaging: retinol, vitamin C,
hyaluronic acid, and AHAs. These are all clinically proven to benefit skin,
as well as being available in potent plant-derived formulas. The pillars of cleansing, exfoliation, toning, and moisturising are all vital parts of a skincare routine, but if you’re wanting to invest in one magic product, I’d recommend looking for something that will add structure, youth, and glow to your complexion –skincare with vegan-friendly collagen and hyaluronic acid is the secret sauce.”
